The Relationship Between Technology and Indonesian Language (Hubungan Teknologi dan Bahasa Indonesia)


Language is a means by which people communicate with each other. As we know, humans are social beings who at all times need to communicate and interact with each other. Language becomes very important for every individual who communicates to convey something and equate understanding between individuals. In the other hand, language is used in all aspects of human life, especially in this case is in technology. So, how does the technology relate to language development? 
Technology is a benchmark for the progress of a nation, where technology itself is closely related to the use of language. Every technological item uses language as the media in building, sharing, advertising, or selling the technological items. For instance, in building an application or web. In building and constructing every parts of an application or web, language named binary code is used. It is English, because English is standard language that used globally. How about Indonesian language? Here are some relationships between technology and Indonesian language.
  • Indonesian language as the translator of technological items from Source Language (English)
At this time, many technological tools that are made from other countries imported into Indonesia. However, all foreign-made technology tools use English as a guide to using the tool.
Therefore, the Indonesian language serves as a technology translator of the source language of the country that produces and exports these technology tools to Indonesia. As an example of a refrigerator that is made in japan, the manual is automatically in Japanese and English, which is the International Language today. Therefore, the language of the other country is translated into Indonesian language to make it easier for the Indonesian people to read and understand the purpose of the manual.
  • Indonesian  as a unifying language in technology-based communication
Nowadays a lot of communication tools based on technology. The role of the Indonesian language here is to make the Indonesian language itself into a unifying language of communication that occurs between two or more users.
  • Indonesian language as the instruction language in delivering Information using technology
By using the Indonesian languages as the instruction language in delivering information, certainly the Indonesian people become easier to understand about the information conveyed. For example, in some international websites, Indonesian language is chosen as the instruction language.
  • Indonesian language as a translation reference in an online translator
Google translate, the biggest online translator organization, puts Indonesian language as one of their reference. It happens because Indonesian language is at rank 5 of the biggest language used in internet. E-Marketer estimates that internet users from Indonesia have reached 112 million people, beating Japan in the fifth rank with growing number of internet users slower (kominfo.go.id). It means that, Indonesian language has developed well, especially in communicative-based technology
